Active-Class VS Edulastic

Edulastic

Edulastic, unlike other platforms, offers a more comprehensive LMS-integrated assessment platform. However, with an overwhelmingly large and confusing selection of question types and below-par cheating-prevention measures, the Edulastic experience is not flawless. Instead, a more user-friendly and effective platform exists in the shape of Active-Class.

User Interface and Navigation

[object Object]

Active-Class

Active-Class has a simple, user-friendly, and visually appealing interface with a single menu featuring three icons for Classes, Modules and Activities. Active-Class is designed to offer simplicity and accessibility, with an essentially functional, interactive, and intuitive user interface. A well-designed dashboard and timetable provide students with a quick, simple and intuitive way of seeing their upcoming activities.

Edulastic

Edulastic

The Edulastic platform is not very engaging nor visually appealing for students or teachers alike. Very little exists that serves to stand out or that would excite the students and make them want to use the system and learn.

Exam Monitoring

Active-Class

Active-Class provides a fully integrated exam monitoring (invigilation and proctoring) service; Active-Exam. This service is not only cheaper than competitors, made possible by advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and behavioural sciences, but it is also far more comprehensive. It is designed with both students’ and teachers’ comfort in mind to provide credibility for exams and enable students to have as little exam-stress as possible.

Edulastic

Edulastic

Edulastic claims to provide preventative measures against cheating. However, these measures are relatively primitive (shuffle questions etc.) compared to the ‘industry standard’. Teachers report that students find ways to cheat through the vulnerable software, lacking a lockdown browser. Students can also log-on as teachers and get different levels of access and can even change the HTML code to make answers visible.

Administering Exams

[object Object]

Active-Class

When administering assessments via Active-Class, a fast internet connection is not imperative to one’s ability to complete the assessment. On this system, once an activity has begun, while an internet connection is needed, very little information is communicated meaning very little demand on the internet connection. If students lose connection for any reason, they have the ability to join back where they left with all the information stored still.

Edulastic

When administering a test via Edulastic, a steady internet connection is required. While this may be more possible on a school’s campus (but still potentially problematic) this may become particularly problematic for tests taken at home. Not everyone has access to steady internet connection and thus the risk of possibly losing your connection can make for a horrible testing experience.

Pricing

[object Object]

Active-Class

Active-Class has a transparent pricing policy. It features a separate page with two subscription options:

Teacher Standard which is our free subscription

Teacher Premium with the cost between £5 and £20 per month plus VAT, depending on the number of students, which provides further functionality

Plus, both subscriptions offer you a 2-month free, fully functional access to the platform, allowing you to experience the system and its features in its entirety. For further information please refer to our pricing page.

Edulastic

Edulastic

Edulastic only offers one premium teacher account which is $100 a year. This restricts the choice available to teachers and institutions, making the experience and cost of using this platform less tailored to your individual needs. Consequently, what you pay for may not always reflect what you ultimately end up using.
