Active-Class VS Schoology
Schoology
Schoology is an LMS that does not go above and beyond for your experience. Being only an LMS results in difficulty in implementing third party software in order to bring assignments into your eLearning experience. Further, the LMS platform alone lacks some features, such as a clearly defined activity dashboard, that would make an LMS substantially more enjoyable to use.
Pricing
Active-Class
Active-Class has a transparent pricing policy. It features a separate page with two subscription options:
Teacher Standard which is our free subscription
Teacher Premium with the cost between £5 and £20 per month plus VAT, depending on the number of students, which provides further functionality
Plus, both subscriptions offer you a 2-month free, fully functional access to the platform, allowing you to experience the system and its features in its entirety. For further information please refer to our pricing page.
Schoology
While the fundamental features of Schoology are available for free, some features do require the premium enterprise version. This pricing varies, the cost of each student being $10. This means the license can become very expensive when wanting to use Schoology with a wider selection of students.
User Interface and Navigation
Active-Class
Active-Class has a simple, user-friendly interface with a single menu featuring three icons for Classes, Modules and Activities. Active-Class is designed to offer simplicity and accessibility, with an essentially functional, interactive, and intuitive user interface.
Furthermore, Active-Class was designed based on the key feedback of teachers and students, hence its remarkable accessibility and intuitiveness. Moreover, there is a committed support team with devoted agents who will offer you the help you need to resolve all your woes, regardless of their scale or the fact that you’re a student or a teacher.
Schoology
Schoology does not have the best UI nor ease of use. Some very simple things are made to be difficult and slow to do when they should be easier. An example of this is viewing results – whereby you have to go in and out of multiple different pages to look across the results section.
Furthermore, the number of options on the Schoology page can be overwhelming for many users. This may be due to unintuitive interface, or a lack of support documentation effectively explaining the system.
Range of Features
Active-Class
A well-designed dashboard and timetable provide students with a quick, simple and intuitive way of seeing their upcoming activities.
Active-Class is a fully integrated, all-in-one system, meaning there is no need for external support, features, or apps. Everything from the LMS platform, to assessments, to exam monitoring (invigilation and proctoring) is included within one system – making it far easier for the users to seamlessly implement any one of these platforms into their eLearning.
Schoology
Schoology does not have certain features that should be considered important to an LMS, such as activity tracking or an activity dashboard.
On top of this, as it is not an all-in-one system, third-party software will be needed for things such as exam monitoring.
People find it difficult to know how best to integrate third party software which perhaps indicates a lack of support for such features.
Scalability
Active-Class
Active-Class is designed to be a user-friendly experience. Great care has been taken to ensure that difficult processes, such as marking, are made to be as seamless as possible. As such, where possible, features have been implemented to ensure the system can be used to maximise your potential. Concerning marking, multiple choice questions can be automatically graded. Moreover, multiple teachers can mark a class at once (without overlap) and there are options to suit your preference: such as marking student by student or teacher by teacher.
Schoology
Users have reported that Schoology can sometimes become problematic with certain processes when the number of students increases. One example of this is that the marking became difficult when the number of students exceeds 100.
